New and returning volunteers must submit forms each school year.

A complete and cleared criminal background check is required. 

Fingerprinting must be done at the Serna Center (schedule here) or at an approved LiveScan location.
Fees apply, $47 + rolling fee, which varies by location.

Fingerprints are “good” for the duration of “uninterrupted” volunteering in the District. If you have fingerprints on file with SCUSD you do not need to complete this process again. Fingerprinting with other organizations/districts/jobs do not qualify.

• Results must be from within 60 days of submitting packet.
• TB clearance good for 4 years.

Sac City Unified offers free tuberculosis (TB) assessments for staff, new hires, and volunteers every Thursday from 3-5pm (unless offices are closed due to a holiday or holiday break). 

Walk-ins are welcome, and no appointment is required. The free screening clinics are held at Serna Center at 5735 47th Ave.

• At the end of the training, you must prove you completed training by one of the following 3 methods:
  1. Paying the fee for the certificate
  2. Alternatively, you may screenshot the certificates page showing the expiration date

  3. Complete the following "quiz" to show proof of training

• Certification is good for 2 years
• You MUST participate in the SCUSD Volunteer Training BEFORE you can volunteer. No exceptions will be made

Submit

• Volunteer packet
• Completed LiveScan form
• Immunization Record/TB test results, and Mandated Reporter Certificate of Completion to the Alice Birney office between 7:45am and 3:30pm. If you choose to drop off at school, please do not park in staff lot. Packets may also be emailed to corey-weaver@scusd.edu, or handed to Ms. Horning at the front gate in the morning during drop off.

Once background check report is received, SCUSD HR Department will contact school with permission to begin volunteer service. Returning volunteers may check in with office to see if all steps are completed and up to date.

For safety reasons, volunteers must sign-in and obtain a badge each time they are on campus. Please remember to sign-out and return your badge upon leaving.

Field Trip Drivers (Grades 3-8) require additional steps:

1. Complete Drivers Packet
   ^{(Release of Driver Record Information Form & Personal Auto Use Form)}

   • This form needs to be completed each school year.

   • The DMV will not accept paperwork where your name does not match your driver’s license exactly. 

2. Copy of valid driver license
    

3. Copy of auto insurance Declarations Page

   • Please note that it MUST say ‘Declarations Page’ on the insurance paperwork. 

   • Coverage dates MUST cover the day of the field trip.

   • The car you are driving MUST be listed on your insurance ‘Declarations Page’ and any forms you have filled out.
